The now famous Eames Plastic Chairs were originally designed for the International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design at the Museum of Modern Art. Post war America was in need of cheap furniture for small housing units that were easy to produce. The Eames Chairs DAW, DSR and DSW were a perfect solution. They are just as loved today as they were during the times they were designed.
“Getting the most of the best to the greatest number of people for the least” was the goal Ray and Charles Eames set for themselves. Everything the famous couple designed paid a tribute to that, particularly the Eames DAR, Eames DSR, Eames DAR and Eames DSW. They intended their chairs to be suitable for mass production hence affordable for everybody. The Eames Plastic Chairs were made for the masses and are the best example of how design furniture can and should be available for all. They were also the first industrially manufactured chairs in American history. Their comfort, their beauty and production were a real breakthrough and brought the couple international fame.
The first chair of the moulded plastic chairs was produced in 1948. They each have the same seat shell that perfectly mimics the shape of the human body and makes them exceptionally comfortable chairs to sit in. However their bases and arm styles vary. That is why they are identified by their initials. The DSW is a Dining chair, Side chair with a Wood base. DSR stands for Dining chair, Side chair with a Rod base. DAW means Dining chair, Armrests and Wooden legs. And finally the initials DAR stand for Dining Chair, Armchair with a Rod base.
The Eames Plastic Chairs are classic dining chairs. They are beautiful design pieces yet functional and comfortable. The variety of colours and customizations options ensure that you can choose your own style and match the chairs with your kitchen or dining room interiors. All the Eames Chairs are also going well with each other. You may choose a combination of all four of them to spice up your dining room a bit more. The wooden based chairs are a touch more rustic. The Eiffel Tower base comes across more modern and futuristic.
The Eames Dining Chairs were designed to be used and integrated in the daily life. By being practical they are used right in style and just the way they were intended to be. Being used as your dining chair is the reason they were manufactured in the first place. For the Eames a designer furniture piece is validated by its practical integrity.
The Eames Chairs were created for mass production. The shells are produced with a mould. Our manufacturers have years of experience with beautiful designer furniture. That is why you will not be able to tell the difference in between our replicas of the DAW, DSR, DAR, DSW and the original chairs.
For Valda the first priority is the quality of your Eames Chair. We do not only want it to look identical to the original but match or even exceed it in quality. The quality is monitored throughout the whole line of production. Your chair will only leave our factory if it meets all of our standards.
The Eames Plastic Chairs come with a variety of bases to choose from. You may choose in between a wooden base, a rocker base or a metal base. The latter is also well known as Eiffel Tower base due to its shape that resembles the famous sight in Paris.
You may also choose in between several colours ranging from a classic white to more bright colours like blue or red. The white Eames Plastic Chairs are true icons and our bestselling products. They are easy to style and got with many interior colours. White is also the most elegant choice.
For the shells we either use cashmere, fiberglass or plastic. The fiberglass shell comes in glossy colours. The plastic shell is matt or transparent. Even though the original Eames Chairs were made of fiberglass the plastic shell is more common today. It is more eco-friendly and easier to process in production. The plastic we use for our replica is polypropylene just like the original Eames Chairs manufacturer.
Our Eiffel Tower base of the Eames DSR and Eames DAR is made out of polished stainless steel. The Eames DAW and DSW have a beech wooden base with metal.
